Symptoms & Treatment

Every man’s body requires vitamins in order to help it stay healthy.

Generally, the best way to get your vitamin intake is through a healthy diet. But in certain cases, vitamin supplements may be necessary.

Two Groups

Male Grooming Boutique - Vitamins Vitamin types fall into two main groups: fat-soluble (like vitamins A, D, and K) which are stored in the liver and fatty tissues and from which they are slowly drawn down, and water-soluble (like the B-group vitamins, C, and folic acid) which can be quickly depleted from the body and so require a regular intake each day.
Like many men, your vitamin intake may be insufficient if any of the following apply:
1. Your diet is low in certain foods due to health, cultural or religious reasons.
2. Heavy drinking or budgetary restrictions have affected your diet.
3. You are, or have been, recovering from a bout of illness, or surgery.
4. You are on any medication that can alter your vitamins levels.

You Are What You Eat

As stated, a healthy diet is normally the optimum way to make sure your body gets all the vitamins it needs. This means eating plenty of plant foods (bread, pasta, noodles, vegetables, and fruit), and moderate amounts of animal foods (milk, yoghurt, cheese, meat, fish, poultry and eggs). Also, in small quantities, oil and margarines. Limit your alcohol intake to no more than one or two alcoholic beverages per day, and aim for at least one day of alcohol abstinence a week.

Cooking

Overcooking meals can reduce their effectiveness; so always try to prepare food with this in mind. Cook vegetables for the shortest possible time (preferably steam or microwave them). Cook frozen vegetables quickly without thawing. Don’t waste nutrients: recycle gravies, soups and stews. Go large: keep vegetables bigger and soak them prior to cooking.

Remember that while in some cases, vitamins may be prescribed in large doses to treat certain conditions, for others, too large a dose is often unhelpful and could even prove harmful.
